Today was our "district professional development day." What fun. It was a long day. All I kept thinking about was what I needed to have done for tomorrow night's Meet the Teacher night. I did get some good resources. Did I mention it was a long day? And on top of all of that, my oldest daughter had her open house this evening. And then, I had to take her to the mall to do some shopping. Did I mention it was a long day?
Now that things in my room are coming together, I've actually started to think about "planning." The kiddos start Monday, I might want to have something for them to do! So during one of my fabulous sessions today, I started to brainstorm. I may have even sketched out a new product that I want to start on soon! During this brainstorming session, I came up with a simple writing activity. My friend Ms. T actually gave me this idea while she was teaching one of those fabulous PD sessions this morning (Thanks Ms. T!). During her session on interactive read alouds, she reminded us all that most first graders at the beginning of the year will tell us that "they can't" read, or write, or do something we might want them to do at the beginning of the year! Does that sound familiar?! Anyway, I got to thinking about that and came up with this writing activity....First Graders Can! It's a simple, teacher led, writing activity that gets those first graders thinking about things they "can do!" I've included a diagram for the anchor chart you will need to create prior to teaching this lesson, the writer's response sheet, and a book cover page. This activity is yours for free! All you have to do is click here!
I hope ya'll are having a great week! Tomorrow night I get to meet my new kiddos! Wish me luck friends!
