WOW, it's already Sunday evening. Why do the weekends go by so fast? Do you get the Sunday evening blahs, too? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my job and everything that goes along with it. It's just that when Sunday's roll around I start to get very overwhelmed with what I have to make happen for that upcoming week. It's also the time that I have to tackle my bulging teacher bag. Where's that personal assistant when you need her?! Wait, I don't have one! Oh well, looks like I have to take care of it myself. Oy vey!
There are so many great linky parties taking place all throughout blogland. How do you choose?Stephanie, from Primary Possibilities, recently stopped by my blog and left me some sweet words. So I headed back over to her blog to respond. When I did, I found out that her gang is hosting a Linky party too. I decided to join right up!
Here's what you do..........
1. How do you get your students to LISTEN?
2. Do you have a secret LOVE? (make this one fun)
3. What do you want to LEARN more about? If you were able to attend any professional development with no money limit, what would it be? What do you want to LEARN?
LISTEN
I'm a big fan of Whole Brain Teaching. When I first read about a teacher using "class, yes," I was skeptical. But, I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad that I did. It is amazing and I love how my kiddos respond. I change it up throughout the day to keep it from getting stale. At Thanksgiving we did "Turkey, Gobble!" My class loved that one! I also use "Macaroni and Cheese, Everybody Freeze," "Friends, Yes," and "Peanut Butter, Jelly." I also like to use "Hands and Eyes." Super powerful!
SECRET LOVE
I love watching reality tv! Swamp People, Duck Dynasty, Hoarders, Dancing with the Stars, Dance Moms........I mean really, isn't it great to sit back and watch other people's lives??!! It makes me very thankful mine is as simple as it is!
This chick is scary!
While we are talking secret loves, I have to admit that I love candy! Gummi bears, sour jellybeans, sour patch kids, candy corn, gummi peach rings............I try to convince myself that it's ok to eat them because the bags say they are 100% fat free! They are, aren't they?!
I'm looking for any excuse to head to Wallie World to buy another bag of sour jellybeans!
LEARN
I want to learn more about comprehension and how to really get my first graders thinking about what they are reading. I feel like I have done much better this year with this because of the new CCSS. It's so hard to really get them to think about their thinking (does that make sense?). Debbie Miller's books have helped with this and I can't wait to get my hands on her newest. I have 2 sweet teammates that have it already and are just devouring it!
Hope ya'll have a great week! I'll be back with some freebies real soon!
